“Building INtegrated Agriculture for an eFfective Ecological Transition”

The BINAFET project aims to advance in the design of a strategy for the integration of resource flows between buildings and urban agriculture. In particular, it delves into the CO2, energy and nutrient exchanges in pilot case studies from a circular economy perspective. By doing so, the project seeks to demonstrate the viability and scalability of new smart solutions for building-integrated agriculture.
In light of previous experiences with the Fertilecity concept, this project is particularly innovative with regards to:
- The recovery of nutrients from the urine generated in a building as a source of fertilizers for urban agriculture.
- The concentration and recirculation of CO2 resulting from human respiration to intensify crop yields in rooftop greenhouses.
- The integration of traditional horticultural varieties to promote the protection of local products.
